Value Creation at Small Scale Airports
Building Competitive Advantages through the Consideration of Passengers’ Needs
by Ursina Hottiger (Switzerland), Vasca Costa (Portugal) and Jenifer Eggeling (Germany)
Small airports are increasingly facing the challenge of having to compete against bigger, main airports. Thus, we are investigating how a small airport in Skåne creates value for its departing passengers in order to stay competitive. We will focus on small airport passengers’ perceptions to find out what they value and why they favour a small airport over a bigger one. Airport planners need to know what their passengers want when developing strategies to attract more customers. If an airport knows what its passengers value, it can successfully upgrade airport facilities, attract passengers and offer a service according to customers’ needs.
